AGB Films is distinguished for being a dynamic, multi-award winning independent production company with a sharp focus on producing high quality factual television for British and International markets. We are based in Somerset.
The company was established in 2003 by Andrew Graham-Brown - an award-winning producer/director with 18 years' experience of documentary filmmaking for BBC1 and BBC2, National Geographic, Discovery and Channel FIVE. Andrew has produced and directed six films (remote locations such as Mongolia, The Skeleton Coast and Northern Territories of Australia) with the presenter, Ray Mears - as well as producing and directing on BBC2 landmark series such as ‘The Seven Ages of Rock’ (BAFTA nominated), ‘Lost Highway’ and ‘Walk on By: The Story of Popular Song’ (BAFTA nominated). Andrew directed Alan Titchmarch on the Grierson nominated ‘British Isles: A Natural History.’
Our first film, ‘Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat’, a BBC Natural World for BBC/Discovery Channel, won EMMY, Grierson, Jackson Hole and Royal Television Society Awards.
Since the early days, the company has expanded to serve a diverse range of prominent broadcasting clients, particularly in the UK and United States. In 2005, a Broadcast Magazine poll of independent production companies revealed AGB Films to be second only to the BBC Natural History Unit in the category of most creative producer of Natural History television in the UK.
AGB Films produced 'Earth Pilgrim' for BBC2. The Observer singled this film out for "its truly spectacular cinematography" and the film won the Cinematography Award at the Wi ldscreen International Film Festival in 2008.
Although AGB Films is renowned for its distinctive blue chip natural history films, the company has diversified to produce a wide spectrum of original and entertaining factual television including, travel, adventure, science, history and one-off documentaries
AGB Films recently made a film called ‘The Hyena Men’ for Channel FIVE/Granada International - an observational documentary based around a gang who live on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria.
AGB Films have very close working relationships with the best talent in the film and television industry, tailor-making productions with award-winning directors, cameramen and film editors.
Recently, the AGB Films production, ‘The Wild Places of Essex’: written and presented by Robert Macfarlane, was shown on BBC2. In his Observer review, Phil Hogan wrote; “You couldn't keep your eyes off this flawless, poetic film presented by Robert Macfarlane. Fabulous.” In The Daily Mail, Christopher Hart said, “This wasn't just a documentary about the English countryside. This was a love letter. Can we have a six-part series?”
This film won the Merit Award for Cinematography at the International Wildlife Film Festival (Missoula) 2010.
